The Mumbai Absurdity

antilla-picture.jpgIf you are India’s first Trillionaire I suppose you can build whatever you want. Maybe that’s why Mukesh Ambani is building himself a 4500 sqmtrs, 27 storey palace in the middle of Mumbai. Crowned Antilla, after a sunken Spanish mythical island, this place comes with all the fixings. For example, it has enough room to house a small country. Y et, only 6 people will live there. It has the capacity to transport more people than a Boeing 747. Y et, its 168 imported cars will rarely leave. It has an entertainment floor with a 50 person theatre. Yet, the 6.5 million Mumbai citizens living in slums will only be invited to view it from the street. However, there is hope. Three floors of the palace will be dedicated to terrace gardens. Which means there should be enough greenery to get the building LEED certified. Unfortunately, anyone holding their breath for certification will have to wait until late 2008 when the building is complete.

That’s not all. Antilla also comes with…

- An entire floor dedicated to in-house car maintenance by full-time mechanics

- Two floors focused on health and fitness, with facilities for athletics, swimming and gym workouts.

- Two floors set aside as a complete guest apartment

- Three rooftop helipads and an entire floor set aside for air traffic control.

- Full-time Staff of 600
